Gente di Trastevere – People of Trastevere, Rome
A tribute dedicated to italian photographer Carlo Bavagnoli (1932-2024) photojournalist in 1955 joined the staff of the italian magazine Epoca. Bavagnoli began working also with Life in 1958, the only non-American to be part of the Life magazine team. For Life his famous shots included the cover that portrayed Jane Fonda as “Barbarella” but also historical reportage in Trastevere. Later published in 1963 by Mondadori, Milano as a book entitled “Gente di Trastevere” of Bavagnoli’s images captured during 1957 – 1960.

“A collection that allows the discovery of a genuine and human Rome now long gone, the result of long documentation work in the working-class neighbourhood of Trastevere. This is the photographic work that made Bavagnoli’s name known overseas and opened to him the doors of the American magazine Life.”
As part of an end of course collective exhibition – analog film photography. Images captured on 35mm black & white film, developed and printed in the dark room by the course students.
